Fizzle wins Grade 6 Agility

Easter Celebration show this weekend was nice and close and all the family came to watch which was even better as Ryan and little Fizzle won the grade 6 agility !! Only one more agility win needed now to make them grade 7 - won't be long I'm sure.Well done Ryan very well deserved. :)


Sadly Ink was out of action due to slicing her ear in half needing 10 stitches. I still have no idea how she managed to do it we were all walking along enjoying our walk, there was no yelp squeak nothing just lots of blood.Thankfully it won't be long before she 's back to normal.

Crufts

Crufts was a few weeks ago and was even more amazing than ever for me as I was to compete in the main ring with my Ink. Obviously last year was  something quite special as my first time competing at Crufts was with Ryan's little Fizzle winning the team event, but I so wanted to be there with Ink. We made it and I cannot describe how nervous I was ! The jumping was up first and I could hardly believe the moment had finally come.To my delight we were clear, with small handler errors once or twice producing wide turns we finished in 2nd place behind the super fast Spanish dog.

The afternoon was the agility . I was slightly more relaxed after the jumping but when we went out to walk the course the arena was packed and the atmosphere was really buzzing and nerves  kicked in again. Just 5 on the a frame but we finished in 3rd  and to my amazement that put us in 2nd overall !!
A very long day,early start  late finish, exhausting with all the walking back and forth to the car so Ink could get some rest as she couldn't relax on the benching, but so so worth it and it's made me more determined to get back there again next year.Well done to my little super star.

Fizzle and Ryan had also qualified again for Crufts this year and what more Ryan has qualified  Fizzle every year since they began competing together quite an achievment on its on I think ! Sadly this was not to be their year as although they started brilliantly Fizzle slipped on the carpet and was faulted in the weave but otherwise a perfect round. Never mind I'm sure they will return .

Tippex

A very happy 15th birthday to my special birthday boy .I am pleased to report he is doing very well, enjoying his walks and life in general albeit at a slower pace. Thank you to Lian for this lovely photo which was taken on a walk recently.

Swayze

Swayze came to us at six weeks old back in October. His mum is a working sheepdog and dad is a patterdale on a farm in Devon. He was unplanned and unwanted.I have to say he is full of fun and mischief and we all love him to bits.I am absolutely enjoying every minute with him , he makes me smile and laugh every day.

Tippex

Many of you have been asking about Tippex so I thought it was high time I updated. Thankfully I can report that all is well and he is getting stronger by the day. For those of you that don't know six weeks ago Tippex collasped very suddenly one morning ,he seemed to be in great pain and was struggling to walk properly.I went straight to my vets who were able to take xrays without the need to do a GA. Bless him he was such a good boy he let them do all they needed with only a light sedation. I have been going there for nearly twenty years and can't praise them all enough for the great care that all my guys have been given over the years.
Anyway to cut a long story short Tippex was referred to Noel Fitzpatick of "The Bionic Vet " fame and was operated on that night.The simple story is that two of the discs were squashed and had to be cleaned out.Tippex was kept in for four days and was returned home with the aid of a sling to walk but only toilet breaks in the garden and strict rest. I was shown a number of physio excersises that had to be done six to eight times a day. It was very distressing for me to watch him unable to stand on his own let alone walk but he just seemed to accept it. Typical terrier just wanted to be on his way as quicky as possible.
On day eight I came down in the morning to see him stand up in his cage and wag his tail at me, I can't find the words to begin to desribe how happy I was. That all seems such a long time ago, now we are up to 45 minute walks on a flexi and he loves every minute of it. He also is having lots of physio and hydrotherapy which he loves.

I could tell by the look on some peoples faces when I told them that they were wondering why I put him through all the surgery at the age of 14 and a half, and for the first few days I sometimes questioned myself too.But we talked it through in great detail and the vets gave us good odds in his favour so we felt he deserved to have the best shot.To see him trotting along in the woods his tail never stopping I know we made the right decision.

Returning to the land of blog

I'm back and would love to say that I've been somewhere doing amazing things but just all the normal everyday stuff and as usual there's never enough time in the day!! Once I got past a the first month or so I just seemed to lose interest in updating the blog.

Never did manage to sort out my video of our Crufts win but Lian found this copy that someone did on youtube,so better late than never they say.....

Crufts....Wooo Hoooo

I can't believe it, I'm still not quite back to earth. We won the small teams.... What a little angel, she ran her little socks off a fantastic clear round in the final. I have to say my nerves got the better of me in the semis. It was a first time for both of us in the main ring, and I had the worry of letting my team mates and Ryan down.Thank you and congratulations to my fellow team mates Anne and Roxy,Wendy and Cruise and Suzanne and Keane.

Lovely walks

Half term has come and gone so quickly. We did meet up with Lian and went for a lovely walk to Oxshot woods.I've never walked here before, the sun shone and we walked for over two hours.Lian took some fantastic photos -thank you Lian

All the dogs ran and played together and had a great time.

Can't believe it's been so long since I've been in 'blogland' so much much has happened I don't know where to start !! Still rather than writing everything up thought I would put some of the last six months in photos - hopefully much more interesting. Will say a quick word about Ryan though. Our last visit to the hospital was Christmas Eve of all days and he is doing well almost back to normal, he is still however being watched and the next visit will, fingers crossed be the final xrays and discharge.I also wanted to say a big thank you to Andy Hudson (www.bodymechanicsmassage.blogspot.com ) who has been seeing Ryan regularly and has played a big part in Ryan's recovery.


A very special happy birthday tomorrow Ryan, 15 where does the time go ?

Playing Catch Up Again

First the good news on Ryan, he has been so patient and done exactly as he was told which means he could do nothing but so far so good and best of all today we went back to the hospital and his plaster has been replaced with one that starts below the knee ! He still is not allowed to bear any weight on the right leg but it is so much easier and more comfortable to get around.

The last few weeks have been busy and difficult at the same time as we have had to rethink our summer but we had a lovely few days on the Isle of Wight . Every year my cousins Anne and Christopher put on a family get together, it is always a great success and a very big thank you to them both.We always have a bouncy castle and this year it was something quite different.It had a beam across the middle which some found more difficult than others to get on! once you were up the idea was to knock your opponent off with a big cushion. The kids were great hanging on upside down and had to be peeled off literally.It's become a bit of a tradition that the group photo is done on the bouncy castle and this year was no exception.

Just a quick note on the agility front ,( mixed feelings about this one as I feel so pleased that Fizzle works for me but a bit guilty at the same time )but at Rugby Fizzle qualified for Crufts 2010 teams, four fast clears put us in first, well done to my fellow team members Anne with Roxy, Wendy with Cruise and Peggy with Zoe. Fizzle was a complete star winning her grade 5 jumping, 3rd in grade 5 agility with me holding all her contacts! Not forgetting Ink 2ND in her grade 6 agility and 5TH in grade 6 jumping.

Ryan's Bad Luck

No one knows whats round the corner! The last 24 hours have been very stressful.Dave went to collect Ryan from scouts last night and when he arrived was told "Ryan's fallen over and hurt himself, someone fell on top of him !". Dave found him in a lot of distress and in great pain brought him home. We had a look and decided that an A & E visit was needed. Result, yes he had broken his tibia and was put in a half cast in case of swelling and back again in the morning.They didn't arrive home until 2am and Ryan and I were back again at 8.45 this morning . More xrays showed that it was indeed a very bad fracture and he is now in plaster from his toes to his hip in the hope that it will stabilize the leg and prevent the need for any surgery, back again next week for further xrays to check there is no bone movement. To make it worse Ryan should have been at Thorpe park today with his school as an end of year celebration. He will also miss his scout trip to Finland in August not to mention all his agility.He has been so very brave - a lot braver than I I'm sure , if the tables were reversed.
